Theory of transmission through disordered superlattices

چکیده
We derive a theory for transmission through disordered finite superlattices in which the interface roughness scattering is treated by disorder averaging. This procedure permits efficient calculation of the transmission through samples with large cross-sections. These calculations can be performed utilizing either the Keldysh or the Landauer-Büttiker transmission formalisms, both of which yield identical equations. For energies close to the lowest miniband, we demonstrate the accuracy of the computationally efficient Wannier-function approximation. Our calculations indicate that the transmission is strongly affected by interface roughness and that information about scale and size of the imperfections can be obtained from transmission data. 72.10.-d,73.40.Gk,73.61.-r Typeset using REVTEX Present and permanent address 1

Coherent quantum transport features in carbon superlattice structures
Whilst resonant transmission is well understood and can be fully harnessed for crystalline superlattices, a complete picture has not yet emerged for disordered superlattices. It has proven difficult to tune resonant transmission in disordered diamond-like carbon (DLC) superlattices as conventional models are not equipped to incorporate significant structural disorder. In this work, we present c...
متن کاملLevel spacing statistics of disordered finite superlattices spectra and motional narrowing as a random matrix theory effect
In the present work the problem of coupled disordered quantum wells is addressed in a random matrix theory framework. The quantum wells are short repulsive binary alloys embeded by ordered barriers and show well defined quantized levels as a consequence of spatial confinement. Finite disordered superlattices may show both diffusive-like and localized minibands. Three different level repulsion s...
متن کاملElectronic Transmission Wave Function of Disordered Graphene by Direct Method and Green's Function Method
We describe how to obtain electronic transport properties of disordered graphene, including the tight binding model and nearest neighbor hopping. We present a new method for computing, electronic transport wave function and Greens function of the disordered Graphene. In this method, based on the small rectangular approximation, break up the potential barriers in to small parts. Then using the f...

GeMn/Ge epitaxial 'superlattices' grown by molecular beam epitaxy with different growth conditions have been systematically investigated by transmission electron microscopy. It is revealed that periodic arrays of GeMn nanodots can be formed on Ge and GaAs substrates at low temperature (approximately 70°C) due to the matched lattice constants of Ge (5.656 Å) and GaAs (5.653 Å), while a periodic ...
متن کاملWave propagation in periodic nonlinear dielectric superlattices
Novel phenomena such as photo& band gaps and possible light localization occur when electromagnetic (EM) waves propagate in dielectric superlattices.1-6 In an approximation where only the scalar nature of the EM wave is taken into account, wave propagation in a periodic or disordered medium resembles the dynamics of an electron in a crystal lattice. As a result, photonic bands and gaps arise in...
